FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Youth Peace & Justice Foundation to Honor Both Austin Sixth Street Victims Through Trees for Peace Memorial; Fundraiser Launched for Savitha Shan’s Family
March 3, 2026 — Austin, Texas / Dallas, Texas — The Youth Peace & Justice Foundation today announced it will honor both students who tragically lost their lives in the recent Austin Sixth Street mass shooting through its national Trees for Peace living memorial initiative.
The Foundation previously announced a memorial for Ryder Harrington, a student at Texas Tech University. The Foundation now confirms that Savitha Shan, a 21-year-old student at The University of Texas at Austin who later succumbed to her injuries, will also be honored in the same memorial setting.
Dedicated trees recognizing both Ryder and Savitha will be planted in the Sam Houston National Forest. These living memorials will stand as enduring symbols of remembrance, resilience, and peace for generations to come.
In addition, the Foundation has launched a dedicated fundraiser to support Savitha Shan’s family during this devastating time.
All donations received will be forwarded directly to her family. The Foundation will act solely as a secure fiscal conduit to ensure transparent and responsible distribution of funds.
