Lives, Legacy & Recovery Journey: Remembering Kerrville, Texas 2025 Floods (Proposed Route)

Here are the updated, landmark-specific walking directions for our charity route, starting precisely at the Temple Buc-ee's and milestones before continuing through the rest of the cities.

📍 Leg 1: Temple Buc-ee's to Belton City Hall — ~12 Miles


1. Start: Depart from Buc-ee's (4155 N General Bruce Dr) and head South on the I-35 South Frontage Road (N General Bruce Dr).


2. Through Temple: Follow General Bruce Dr south for about 5 miles. Turn West (Right) onto W Central Ave, then immediately South (Left) onto S 1st St / BL-35.


3. To Belton: Stay on BL-35 South as it crosses under the TX-36 flyover and turns into N Main St upon entering Belton.


4. To City Hall: Follow N Main St south into downtown Belton, turn West (Right) onto E 2nd Ave, and then South (Left) onto Water St to arrive at Belton City Hall (333 Water St).

📍 Leg 2: Belton City Hall to Salado Village Center — ~11 Miles


1. Out of Belton: Head South on Water St, turn East (Left) onto E Central Ave, and then South (Right) onto S Main St.


2. To I-35: S Main St will guide you directly to the I-35 South Frontage Road.


3. To Salado: Walk South along the west side frontage road for roughly 8 miles.


4. To Village Center: The frontage road seamlessly becomes N Main St as you enter Salado. Follow N Main St straight into the heart of town to reach the Salado Village Voice / Civic Center area (Salado Village Center).

📍 Leg 3: Salado Village Center to Jarrell (Town Center) — ~13 Miles


1. Out of Salado: Continue South on S Main St out of the village center.


2. The County Line: Re-enter the westbound I-35 South Frontage Road and follow it south across the Bell/Williamson county line.


3. Into Jarrell: The frontage road leads directly into Jarrell, turning into N 5th St. Follow this to the Jarrell Town Center area near FM-487.

📍 Leg 4: Jarrell to Downtown Georgetown — ~14 Miles


1. Out of Jarrell: Head South on S 5th St to rejoin the I-35 South Frontage Road.


2. Frontage Trek: Follow the frontage road south for approximately 12 miles through the open flats of northern Williamson County.


3. Into Georgetown: Cross the San Gabriel River, utilize the local sidewalks on N Austin Ave, and head south straight into the historic Georgetown Town Square.

📍 Leg 5: Georgetown to Florence — ~17 Miles


1. Out of Georgetown: From the square, head North on N Austin Ave, then turn West (Left) onto W University Ave / TX-29 West.


2. To SH-138: Walk West on the TX-29 shoulder for about 4 miles, then turn Northwest (Right) onto SH-138.


3. Into Florence: Follow the SH-138 shoulder northwest for roughly 11 miles. It brings you directly into the town of Florence, turning into E Main St.

📍 Leg 6: Florence to Burnet — ~23 Miles


1. Out of Florence: Head West on W Main St, which quickly becomes FM-970.


2. To TX-29: Follow FM-970 West for 10 miles through rural terrain until it intersects with TX-29 West.


3. Into Burnet: Turn West (Right) onto the TX-29 West shoulder. Follow TX-29 for 12 miles straight into Burnet, where it becomes E Polk St at the town square.

📍 Leg 7: Burnet to Marble Falls — ~15 Miles


1. Out of Burnet: From the town square, head South on S Water St / US-281 South.


2. To Marble Falls: Follow the US-281 South shoulder south for 15 miles. The terrain becomes significantly hillier here. US-281 leads directly into Marble Falls, becoming N Hwy 281.

📍 Leg 8: Marble Falls to Johnson City — ~25 Miles


1. Out of Marble Falls: Head South on N Hwy 281, crossing over the Colorado River bridge.


2. Through Round Mountain: Continue South on the US-281 South shoulder for roughly 10 miles to pass through Round Mountain.


3. Into Johnson City: Continue South on US-281 for another 14 miles. Enter Johnson City via N Hwy 281 toward the main intersection with US-290.

📍 Leg 9: Johnson City to Fredericksburg — ~30 Miles


1. Out of Johnson City: From the main highway intersection, head West on Main St / US-290 West.


2. Through Wine Country: Follow the US-290 West shoulder for 30 miles through Stonewall.


3. Into Fredericksburg: Enter the city directly on US-290, which becomes E Main St as you approach the Marktplatz.

📍 Leg 10: Fredericksburg to Kerrville — ~27 Miles


1. Out of Fredericksburg: From downtown, head West on W Main St, then turn Southwest (Left) onto TX-16 South (Sidney Baker St).


2. The Hill Climb: Follow the TX-16 South shoulder out of town. This is your toughest stretch—expect steep climbs and rolling hills with blind curves.


3. Finish Line: Continue on TX-16 South as it crosses under I-10 and leads you directly into downtown Kerrville over the Guadalupe River bridge.


The Youth Peace & Justice Foundation is a nonprofit organization, formed after the 2022 Uvalde, Texas Mass Shooting and is focused on trauma-informed response, youth violence prevention, and community healing initiatives.

SAFETY AND OPERATIONAL MEASURES


* Volunteer safety marshals accompanying walking groups


* Staggered pedestrian formations (no lane obstruction clustering)


* Hydration and rest stop intervals throughout route


* Direct communications protocol for emergency escalation


* Daylight-focused movement scheduling where feasible


* Compliance with all municipal and county safety guidance


* Confirm sidewalk continuity and shoulder conditions.


* Coordinate with local law enforcement regarding major road crossings.


* Place support vehicles ahead of walkers at each scheduled stop.


* All walkers will wear mandatory ANSI Class 3 high-visibility safety vests.


* In accordance with Texas Transportation Code § 552.006, walkers will strictly utilize sidewalks where available, or walk on the left shoulder facing oncoming traffic.


* The group will be escorted at intervals by a trailing/lead Support and Gear (SAG) vehicle equipped with high-visibility markings, emergency medical/hydration supplies, and flashing amber hazard lights.


* Public participation is voluntary and strictly subject to on-site coordination and safety guidance from organizers and local authorities.

PUBLIC PARTICIPATION

Members of the public may participate in designated segments of the walk, subject to on-site coordination and safety instructions issued by organizers and local authorities.


We are committed to full cooperation with all Bell County law enforcement and transportation agencies and appreciate your guidance in ensuring a safe and orderly passage through each jurisdiction.


These stages are among the more straightforward portions of the overall route before the walk transitions into the more rural and hilly Texas Hill Country west of Georgetown.
