An Update from the Founder of the Uvalde Foundation for Kids
5 September 2025
Dear Friends, Supporters, and Community Members,
I am writing to you today with a deep sense of gratitude and a renewed commitment to our shared mission of ending student violence and supporting our youth. The last several months have been a period of significant progress and expansion for the Uvalde Foundation for Kids, and I am proud to share some of our major accomplishments.
Since the tragedy in Uvalde, we have faced questions regarding our decision to expand our mission and national reach. We met these challenges with fervor and resolve, which has resulted in more students and school communities receiving our unique, multilevel services.
Our foundation has always been dedicated to financial accountability and transparency. This year, we have taken a major step forward by implementing new, updated quarterly budget reports. This initiative, based on extensive research and community feedback, is designed to enhance our financial transparency and ensure that every dollar you donate is used effectively to serve our mission.
Furthermore, in a decision that further reflects our commitment to extended transparency, we have chosen to file a more detailed IRS Form 990 this year, as opposed to the shorter form required for organizations of our size. This will provide a more comprehensive and accessible look at our financial operations. I want to assure you that no officer, board member, volunteer, or staff member receives a salary or financial compensation for their work. This ensures that all funds are directed toward only our operating costs our core initiatives.
Our Recent Work and Impact
The past several months have seen our foundation respond to several critical needs across the country. We have donated over $12,500 in relief and over 2 tons of supplies nationwide:
Here are a few examples of our recent work:
* Kerr County Flood Relief: In response to the tragic flooding in Kerr County, Texas, we have been actively involved in relief efforts. We have provided over $6,150 in financial aid and direct assistance, and over 2 tons of supplies for flood victims. This was a direct result of partnerships between our foundation and organizations nationwide:
Our work in Kerr County was highlighted by news outlets like the Temple Daily Telegram, showcasing the collaborative efforts to provide essential support. Additionally, we launched the "Letters of Hope" campaign, a peer-driven, youth-to-youth crisis support program to help young people affected by the floods process their trauma through a "pen pal" style exchange.
* Support for Minneapolis and Chicago Victims: Following the tragic shooting at Annunciation Church and School in Minneapolis, we have donated and raised over $7,000 for the two children who died during the shooting: https://kstp.com/kstp-news/top-news/uvalde-foundation-donates-2k-to-harper-moyskis-family-more-donations-planned-for-other-annunciation-victims/
In addition, we have launched our "STOPNOW" volunteer school and community safety patrols in both Minneapolis and Chicago. Our teams in Minneapolis have been patrolling the neighborhoods surrounding the church and school: https://kstp.com/kstp-news/top-news/uvalde-foundation-for-kids-plans-to-send-community-patrols-to-minneapolis/
The formation of our Chicago patrols is a direct response to the increase in violence, including the tragic killing of a 14-year-old student. Our teams are providing a visible presence and support in neighborhoods like Brighton Park, Oakland, and Humboldt Park. This is part of our ongoing commitment to support victims of violence and their families across the nation: https://www.cbsnews.com/chicago/video/uvalde-foundation-starting-safety-patrols-in-some-chicago-neighborhoods/
* Bullying Prevention: Our long-term efforts in bullying prevention have continued to expand. We have provided anti-bullying curriculum materials and resources to schools in several states. Our work focuses on providing students, teachers, and parents with the tools to recognize, intervene, and prevent bullying. We are also proud to announce the release of our new book, Pooh and the Kindness Journey, which is available through booksellers like Barnes & Noble:

* Student Scholarships: We continue to believe in the power of education to transform lives. Our latest student scholarship winner is True Schrider, an honors graduate from Patrick Henry High School in Roanoke, Virginia. True's story of overcoming bullying and achieving academic success is an inspiration to us all, and we are proud to support her journey.
* Advocacy and Legislative Work: Our work has also expanded to include legislative advocacy. For example, we have been working on proposals for "Emmanuel's Law" and "Conrad's Law" to address gaps in student safety and accountability. This is a crucial part of our mission to create systemic change. Our proposal for "Conrad's Law" is in direct response to the tragic death of 3-year-old Conrad Ashcraft at a Missouri daycare. This proposed legislation would require audio and video surveillance in all licensed daycare facilities..

* We have also been active in a number of student-related crises, including the case of missing baby Emmanuel Haro in California:
Our teams worked to raise awareness and provide assistance to the family, with our efforts covered in news outlets such as Victor Valley News. Furthermore, our STOPNOW teams have been aiding in missing student cases, such as the two students from the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (FLDS) in Missouri. These efforts have been reported on by news outlets such as People Magazine: https://people.com/ground-search-called-off-for-idaho-teens-suspected-of-being-kidnapped-by-flds-church-11767055
* National School Threat Database: In a major new development, we have officially launched our national school threat database and comprehensive threat resource center. This unique tool, which utilizes both artificial intelligence and dedicated staff members, is designed to monitor, track, and report school threats in real time. We believe this platform will be crucial in combating the alarming rise in violent school threats across the country.
