Seattle Public Schools continues to demonstrate a strong commitment to community‑engaged approaches that uplift student voices, support families, and strengthen partnerships with community organizations. Through intentional collaboration and sustained investment in student safety and wellness, the district has taken meaningful steps to promote safe, nurturing, and inclusive learning environments.
SPS’ School and Community Partnerships Department leads efforts to build cross‑sector collaborations that align school goals with community support systems, emphasizing equity‑driven and culturally responsive practices. These partnerships enable expanded opportunities for students to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.
In 2024–2025, Seattle Public Schools joined with the City of Seattle and community partners to expand mental health services, violence prevention programs, and student safety initiatives. This work included enhanced access to counseling resources, prevention specialists, and safe passages programs, prioritizing a holistic approach to student well‑being.
“Our community is strongest when students feel safe, supported, and seen,” said Daniel Chapin, Founder and President of The Youth Peace & Justice Foundation. “Seattle Public Schools’ openness to partnership, community feedback, and shared commitment reflects a deep and genuine investment in our young people. We are grateful for their leadership and collaboration.”
The Youth Peace & Justice Foundation celebrates SPS’ ongoing efforts and looks forward to continued dialog, cooperation, and shared work to support students and families throughout Seattle.

Dear Daniel and Youth Peace & Justice Foundation Team,
Thank you for convening the recent community gathering and feedback session focused on youth safety in the Rainier Beach area. We appreciate the care taken to center the voices of youth, families, and the community during a time when connection and collaboration matter deeply. The dialogue, shared lived experiences, and collective commitment to supporting young people were meaningful.
Seattle Public Schools values opportunities to work with community partners who share the goal of promoting student well-being, safety, and supportive learning environments. Your efforts to bring stakeholders together for conversation, healing, and forward-looking strategies align with our broader commitment to community-engaged approaches.
We welcome continued coordination and would appreciate it if you could identify a local point of contact from your team so we can stay aligned on future forums, planning conversations, and youth-focused safety initiatives in Seattle. Our goal is to ensure communication channels remain open and that district staff supporting safety, student services, and community partnerships can participate as appropriate.
Thank you again for your outreach and for the work you are doing to support young people and families. We look forward to staying in communication and exploring how our efforts can remain connected in service of students and community well-being.
In Partnership,
Ted Howard
