Uvalde Nonprofit Formed After Mass Shooting, Releases Letter To Minneapolis
29 August 2025 (National)(Minneapolis)
Remember the beautiful lives of Fletcher Merkel and Harper Moyski, and honor their memory by holding their families and loved ones close. The love you have for them and for each other is a force that violence cannot extinguish.
Dear Minneapolis,
In the aftermath of the horrific tragedy at Annunciation Catholic Church and School, our hearts ache for your community. We, the Uvalde Foundation For Kids, stand with you in grief and solidarity.
Though miles may separate us, the pain is a familiar one, and we want you to know that you are not alone. Our foundation was formed in the wake of the mass shooting at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas, on May 24, 2022.
The loss of 19 beautiful students and two dedicated teachers left our community and the nation reeling.
In response, our foundation was created with a singular mission: to change the cultural trajectory of student violence and advocate on behalf of our nation's youth and school communities.
Our work is a direct response to the devastation we experienced. We have since developed and implemented vital programs for school violence prevention and student advocacy.
When we heard the news from Minneapolis, the trauma of that day in Uvalde came rushing back. The senseless violence, the innocent lives lost, the shattered sense of safety—we understand the depth of your pain. We know what it feels like for a community to have its heart ripped out. We know the long road ahead, filled with grief, anger, and the difficult work of healing.
We send our heartfelt encouragement and hope to the Annunciation Church and School community, as well as the greater Minneapolis community.
Know that it is okay not to be okay. Healing is not a straight line, and there will be good days and bad. Allow yourselves to feel the emotions—the sorrow, the anger, the fear. Lean on each other. Rely on your faith, your family, and your neighbors.
The bonds of community will be your greatest strength.
In the midst of this darkness, there will be moments of light. You will find comfort in the support of those who reach out. You will witness incredible acts of kindness and resilience.
Remember the beautiful lives of Fletcher Merkel and Harper Moyski, and honor their memory by holding their families and loved ones close. The love you have for them and for each other is a force that violence cannot extinguish.
We encourage you to seek out and accept help. Mental health resources and trauma-informed care will be vital for your community in the days, months, and years to come. Do not be afraid to reach out to professionals who can guide you through this process. Remember, there is strength in vulnerability.
The road to recovery will be long, but it is a journey you will take together. Your faith will be a powerful source of comfort and a beacon of hope. The Annunciation Catholic Church and School community is strong, and together, you will find a way to rebuild and find a new sense of peace.
From our community to yours, we send our deepest condolences and an unwavering promise of support. We are standing by you during this time of profound grief and healing.
With hope, healing and solidarity,
